about

Languis is a duo comprised of M. Chloca and A. Cohen. The two have been working together since 1991 and are consistently writing and recording music in their home studio in Altadena, California.
Languis has released four works so far. In January 1998, Languis released an EP composed of four tracks (three lyrical, one instrumental). The first Languis LP, titled Simball Sounds, was released in August 1998 and is a 9-track instrumental CD which was recorded on a four-track recorder at Languis' studio. Some of the innovative techniques used in the recording of the album include the use of both analog and digital synthesizers, organs, guitars, and samplers, which gives the LP a thick and rich sound in a low-fi context. Last Frequency Presets was released in the spring of 1999. It was also recorded in their home studio, and composed using both analog and digital synthesizers, guitars, and vocals.
Languis’ most recent work, Soft Music, was released on January 15, 2000. Soft Music contains 3 instrumental songs, perhaps their most experimental works so far, which are closely related to sound collage material.
Languis is being played frequently on many college radio stations, including KALX, KXLU, and KCRW, and Last Frequency Presets was #1 on the KXLU CMJ playlist in April 1999. Languis is currently performing in the Los Angeles area and recording their next full-length CD to be released in June 2000.
