OX is the audio-visual duo of Alex Pelly and Oren Kolin. The two began collaborating in 2020, Pelly on audio and visual synths, Kolin on heavily affected electric guitar . Their first EP, Jupiter, is culled from live improvisations recorded in late 2020, early 2021. Auditory voyages through droning otherworldly landscapes were created with analog instrumentation and processing. These compositions were then visualized using audio reactive modular video synthesis, producing a bi-sensory experience to accompany both tracks on the EP.

Originally hailing from Canada, Alex Pelly has been an integral part of the Los Angeles video art community for over a decade. Her work incorporates multiple generations of technology, both analog and digital, conjuring and controlling video feedback in various incarnations. Over the past five years, her process has been centered around modular video synthesis. In collaboration with musicians and sound artists, Pelly’s visuals serve as a reflection of and muse to the music simultaneously. Most recently, she has been delving into audio synthesis, creating her own sounds to visualize.

Oren Kolin is an Isreali-born experimental guitar player and singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles. A combination of fingerpicking and assorted effects modules and loopers are used to produce his unique style within OX: rich tones and intricate soundscapes which are nearly unrecognizable as the 6 stringed instrument from which they originate.
