about

Alejandro Cohen’s High Velocity: A Tribute to Lou Reed’s Metal Machine Music, is as the title suggests, a piece inspired by Lou Reed’s 1975 experimental record, Metal Machine Music. High Velocity’s sound is created using a commercial grade fan which is altered to create a shrieking noise. Applying concepts similar to the original MMM in order to create feedback, the sound of the metal fan is fed through a series of guitar amplifiers, distortion effects, filters, and echo unit. This produces layers of noise which feed off of each other. In essence, the music is created by the interconnection of the machine and the audio effects. The artist made adjustments during the performance of the piece and later edited the recording to enhance the sound.
